CV Suggestions
The first thing to acknowledge is that your CV is simply a tool to get you an Interview. Therefore you want to make it very clear what you’re strengths are and what you have achieved in your career to date. The following suggestions will help.
- Use bullet points to outline responsibilities and achievements.
- Include a key skills section that consists of 6-8 bullet points, this should be added prior to the main body of your CV so that potential employers can see a snapshot of your capabilities at a glance.
- Layout your experience in reverse chronological order.
- Tailor your CV to the role. It’s critical that you align your experience to the relevant competencies the employer is seeking.
- Be factual and honest.
- Focus on the last five years, whilst you should always include all of your work experience the most recent is always going to be reviewed in more depth.
- Ensure the content of your CV is qualitative and highlights your achievements rather than just your responsibilities.
- Always keep the CV to a maximum of 3 pages.
- Provide contact details – email and phone number at a minimum.
- Although tempting do not include a photo or interests section. Your appearance and lifestyle outside of work are important but this is best left for the interview.
